A Leap Year Custom Lives On

No one knows for certain the origin of the custom that allows women to propose marriage on Leap Day. Leap Day, the extra day added every four years to put the calendar year in synch with the solar year. One explanation for the custom comes from Ireland. According to Irish legend, Saint Brigid, an Irish holy woman who lived in the fifth century, complained to Saint Patrick about women having to wait for men to propose. Saint Patrick agreed that this practice was unfair, so he decided that eager females could propose on this one day. A different explanation of the custom comes from medieval England. According to this explanation, people there thought that because Leap Day existed to fix a problem in the calendar, it could also be used to fix an old and unjust practice. In 1288, the custom became an actual law in Scotland. Hi you guys. When are your holidays?

So I was thinking, we should all get together and do something during the holidays. You have no idea how lonely it gets out here, outside of College World.

And it really sucks that I started this blog with the idea that we could use it to keep up with what's going on in each other's lives, but nobody is really putting any effort into it.

And I have not met any new people at all, so I don't know who to kacau when I'm bored.

And I'm still waiting to start studying.

And we have nothing in common any more 'cos you guys are all college students now, so we can't talk about studies, or teachers, or scandals...(!)

And it sucks that I don't see you guys any more, not even on weekends. Sometimes I see your moms (Kay), kid sisters/brothers (Kay, Wern Pheng), sometimes I see you guys in the car (Nicky). But we never lepak any more.

And it just really sucks big time 'cos it looks like I'm the only one going to Form 6...

Hello everybody. Gong Xi Fa Cai. Here is a list of places to check out if you are bored with Asia Cafe (AC). I'm not sure about the pricing compared to AC, but a lot of college students go to these places, so it should be OK for you guys.


Casamia
Has things like nasi lemak, mee hoon goreng, buns, puffs, cakes, spaghetti, claypot yee mee...and others. Along the same row as Herbs 'n' Food SS15. Or you can turn left at Restoran Foh Foh (a coffee shop behind Taylor's Business School)


As You Like It
Just opposite Casamia. Much food here also, relatively cheep. Things like wan tan mee, rice with dishes. You can also play games while you eat. Heh heh.



Restoran Brother Seng
A few doors down from Casamia. Serves noodles galore. Homemade noodles OK!!!


House of Fishball
Serves -yup, you guessed it- fishball noodles. Try the celery (green) noodles. Tasty! Also has fish porridge and yong tau fu. Opposite the construction site in SS15. (I think the construction site is the former Canai & Such Gazebo)



Peppercorn
OK-lah, if you have a bit more money $$$ you can go try their set lunches. Set lunch starts from 19.90 for soup, main course(fish, chicken or some kind of red meat, you can choose), dessert and tea/coffee (interchangeable with chrysanthemum tea). Along the same row as High & Mighty.


Restoran Green Leaf
Here there is the usual fried noodles or rice. But they also have Western, cheep. Opposite VK AutoCare (a car workshop), next to where KAOS cybercafe used to be.

Not too sure about this one, but everyone says it's cheep and tasty...

Cheep, cheep Western food, many choices! It's the corner shop before you turn into Auntie June's road. (also known as cybercafe street)

Had a tour round the library and classes and also the main campus today. Met some new friends. Nothing much going on yet at the moment.

Met Alyssa and Anthea too during orientation :D. Alyssa's taking actuarial science and i seem to have forgotten what Anthea is taking =\

I forgot ADP separate building from SAM and CAL. Haha. How was orientation? I met all my lecturers today. Except ESL cos had to go for some library briefing thing. My Physics teacher abit scary la. So soft-spoken and look so serious wan. However he DID let us go off early. I guess that's good =D But other than that, the others are fine. Got sense of humour la. My spec maths teacher says, "Spec maths is not easy la. Not that hard also. But quite hard la." @@"

So who's going where? When starting? Don't be like the lazy bum Nat =P I started SAM at Taylor's today. Orientation was today so the hours were only 8.30am to 1pm. I'm in S4 (same class as Jason. lol). My mentor is Miss Doh. First time I've seen a teacher wearing sneakers to class. And I finish at 3pm everyday!! Unfairness!! =(
